Friday Find – Chandelier

I love something a little bit quirky and one of my favourite designers Young & Battaglia always come up trumps.  I am loving these miniature chandelier lights, the perfect addition for a talking point whether it be a bathroom with a difference, a sophisticated restaurant or a opulent styling idea for a wedding of royal standards…. on with the colourful adventure…. Have a great weekend……

Nursery Rhymes

Well finally I have a little bit of a routine going with my now eight month old, and thought it was about time that I stop procrastinating and get back on the blogging horse…. While my searches for new ideas have predominantly been taken up with getting well and truly sucked into the world of how much you can possibly buy for a new born, or googling “sleep deprived”, “introducing solids” and “what nappy DOES NOT explode for heaven’s sake!” to name but a few, I have been trying to keep my hand in the interior world.  And what better excuse than a nursery! After all what easier client can you have than a new born baby…. who does not know high street from designer….. hopefully they will stay this way – well he has not complained yet anyway!

So here are a few pictures for the album of nursery design, although I am yet to work out how to keep an active baby from summersaulting on a change mat!  All answers on a postcard please!

Big ted and little ted…..

I love the scandinavian style and design and was so excited by this gift from my brother and dad.  It is called a bednest and is seriously the best bassinet. It attaches to your bed and the side drops down for easy access, which is perfect if you are a little sore…. worth every penny!

image

Some serious logistics had to go into this one, I had hubby well trained going into the rafters to attach these little beauties.

I did get very good at barking orders at my handy man (AKA hubby) in my beached whale state from my rocking chair below…. very comfortable!!

A little shrine to my English heritage in the corner with a little bit of Beatrix Potter and a Harrods bear.  Harrods make one for every year and my sister in law gave this as a present to Jamie.  It has the year embroidered on his foot and celebrates a character from Harrods past, for 2014 it was the original Harrod’s delivery man.

image

Yes…many an hour has been spent in this chair……

image

Meet Monkey and Barty Bear….. never to be parted from them at bed time….. very glad I have a couple of spares in the cupboard for when they have been sucked into oblivion and need a little session in the washing machine!

image

I have even take some inspiration from talents such as Tara Badcock (although I am by no means in her league!) and had a go at making a few embroideries…. the perfect past time to keep me from over indulging on online shopping sprees when I was too big to move more than a couple of inches from the couch! Yes Tara, I don’e think you need to worry!!!!

image

Well someone seems to like it…..

image

And well to finish… a little motto for over his bed, given as a christening gift… and well it is all I can hope for….

On with the colourful adventure…..xxxx

Stumble upon – “Perish Trust” San Francisco

IMG_0811

On a windy San Francisco day I decided to explore a little bit out of the central city and stumbled upon Divisadero St and a little gem called “The Perish Trust”.  I am a sucker for curiosity and nick nacs, especially when they are displayed in such a gorgeous way.  So out came the camera for me to share with you…. Unfortunately excess baggage did not allow me to partake as I had already bout too many shoes and jeans at this point… but I am wishing I had bought those little moccasin’s now!

“Our mission is to diligently collect and curate antiques from the dead and dying industries. Perusing basements, boxes and personal stashes for the odd, obsolete and unusual. Hand picking artists from coast to coast to collaborate and showcasing it all in our gussied up little bunker.”

British India – New Collection from Bethany Linz

Bethany Linz THE GREAT SHALIMAR

Before I begin my journey from San Diego to San Francisco, I thought I would keep you in suspense for a couple more days to share a little news from Sydney creative Bethany Linz, who’s beautiful work has featured in a couple of my posts. During my interview with Bethany (back in October) she mentioned that she would be releasing a range of wallpapers and textiles for Sparkk, and I am really excited to get a little sneak preview for you.

The collection, due to be released this month, is based on the theme of British India, and Beth explains why below.

“The reason why I chose British India as the theme for my first collection was simply because I love all things victorian.

During the reign of Queen Victoria, Britain was discovering the treasures and culture of India, the Victorians as a result started to have a love affair with all things Indian and they began to decorate their houses with tropical plants and murals of exotic flowers and birds.
You wouldn’t think that two opposite worlds colliding together design-wise would work so harmoniously, but having bright green tropical foliage and exotic murals work so well next to the dark wooden furniture and victorian tiles. With this collection I wanted to capture that “new world meets old”, having a tropical collection whilst still keeping a classic British feel about it.”

A floored obsession – Sonya Marish

jatana-tile_montage

Sometimes we become a little bit obsessed with decorating our walls and dressing windows and kind of forget about the floor.  Maybe we will throw down a rug, but rarely is there as much excitement about the flooring as the walls or a piece of furniture. A few years ago I stumbled upon an article about a store which has evolved from the passion of Byron Bay based designer Sonya Marish.

Sonya has the most amazing range of antique and reproduction tiles which have been sourced from her travels around the globe.

“Forever searching for those rarities, I was over the moon when I stumbled across some beautiful antique tiles that I had to have. Their history, beauty and imperfections were exactly what I was looking for.” Sonya Marish, Jatana Interiors.

Sonya began her hunt for the perfect tiles when she commenced styling her own bathroom.  From here an obsession started which grew into her business in Byron Bay Jatana Interiors….So if there is such a thing as tile porn then this is a good place to get your fix and who says that you have to stick to tiling the floor….. Let me know your thoughts.

My favourite has to be when they are all mixed up to create a colourful festival…who says you have to stick to conformity.

I love these handmade bowls by New York designer Nicole Porter.  They are the perfect way to add a little colour to your table whatever season you are entering.  Using a mixture of graphic prints, and bold bright and fun colours, they are a simple way to add a little colour to your garden salad.

I also love the quirky tongue in cheek napery, after all who said the dinner table could not be fun! Whether you love your Citrus fruits…..

Day dream kind of day

Dream boat

Every now and again (well probably more often than not) my mind sets in to daydream mode….. and today is just one of those many days.  So I thought I would honour the occasion with the best dreamy hanging beds to put my daydreaming into its full state of usefulness.

Which one is your favourite?

I am loving the added inspiration wall, boxes and books……creativity heaven!

I am half expecting a cloaked prince to come out of the mist…. but I am not quite sure how you would turn the lamp on, maybe he could help!

All white……..Maybe a little too bright for a relaxing daydream….Not to mention the stress of keeping everything so whitey white!! Now grey on the other hand I could do grey….

Or you could do dual purpose, below would double up as the perfect outdoor dining table ( and you would not even need a separate table cloth!)

Have a great weekend….. happy daydreaming….. meanwhile on with the colourful adventure x
