Imagine a place where you can shop furniture, make up, clothes….when you need to rest those feet you can enjoy the surrounds of a fairy tale garden or a coffee and bite to eat…. or if it all gets too much you can even get a bed for the night…..
Well, albeit that you may need to go to the Netherlands to enjoy, Dutch store and furniture curators Droog have recently opened a new experience in the world of hotels, Hotel Droog, with the emphasis on making your stay more of an experience. Housed in a 17th century building in the heart of Amsterdam, you can have a drink, a bite to eat, visit galleries or indulge in a series of lectures, chill in the gardens, revamp your wardrobe or catch forty winks if it all gets too much. Albeit you may have to fight over the one bed…
“The concept of a hotel has been reversed. Whereas a hotel is usually mostly about sleeping, here we have enlarged and emphasized all the aspects that many hotels also offer and made them central to the hotel experience—and it even has a room to sleep in,” says Renny Ramakers, co-founder and director of Droog. “Hôtel Droog brings all of our activities under one roof—from curation to product design, exhibitions and lectures—and invites people to plug in as they choose.”
The concept seems to have been met with great feedback, possibly because it is giving the shoppers an experience that they cannot get from the increasing popularity of internet all under one roof……. will be interesting to see how it goes….
Let me know what you think….. on with the colourful journey……..
